Tim was born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After high school, he attended the Pennsylvania State University where he graduated from the Schreyer Honors College with a degree in chemistry. As an undergraduate, he worked on the synthesis and characterization of polymerization powered nanomotors.
Since school was all that he knew, it stood to reason, he thought, to go on to graduate school. He returned home to the University of Pittsburgh to pursue his Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Under the guidance of Dennis Curran, Tim worked on a variety of projects, but managed to find some success studying radical initiation and exploring the reactivity of N-heterocyclic carbene boranes.
Upon completion of his degree, Tim joined the Porco group in 2018 and is currently working on the synthesis of epoxyquinol natural products and the development of methods to aid their synthesis. Outside of the lab, Tim enjoys running, solving the crossword puzzle, and both AM and PM coffees alike.
